1 quart “easy pack”. https://www.amsoil.com/p/severe-gear...?code=SVGPK-EA

I’m not sure I could tell one fluid from the next in the diff, at least. But I was sold on the squeeze bag for getting it into the fill ports. Definitely a better mousetrap.

Not sure of the reason but there was definitely a noticeable difference.

I got oem fluid for the X5 diffs. Not much of a difference in price, and it’s not a whole lot of fluid anyway.
Back in the day when manual transmissions were more common, gear oils used to always clearly say GL4 or GL5 on them. I don't remember the details (but I'm sure the google does), but GL5 was for differentials and GL4 was for manual transmissions. Something about the different gear types and shock loading, but it was definitely an issue to be concerned about. Not sure if that might have been an issue for your Maxima - giving a different feel for the MT even if it was not going to damage anything, assuming the Amsoil is GL5.

I notice on the Amsoil spec there, there is no mention of GL rating, even after trying to find it. Anyone know why not?

There are some cases, such as a 911's transaxle (old ones at least) where the two systems are combined and share the same oil, but of course that is engineered accordingly. (and takes GL5, specifically SWEPCO 201)

GM loves to underfill diffs.

I think that the consensus is that they do this to increase fuel economy, and that if you're using it hard, go ahead and fill to the plug.
