Reading the following codes(all go away when cleared-come right back)
2002 x5 3.0

P0313 Misfire w/low fuel
p0300 Random multiple cyl. misfire
p1346 misfire during start cyl.3
p1353 misfire with fuelo cutoff on cyl.6
p1350 ignition control system
p1342 misfire during start cyl.1
p0171 fuel system too lean-bank 1
p0174 fuel system too rich-bank 2
po456-evap leak monitor-small leak detected
po0491
po049


Ses light on-I'm an amateur mechanic and have been able to fix everything so far without going to the stealership-any help with troubleshooting/fixing would be greatly appreciated.Love the car and this forum!

Borrow a fuel tester from a parts store. Or buy one from Harbor Freight. Check fuel pressure first.

How many miles are on it? How old are the plugs? Upgrading to a single prong plug over a stock prong has improved engine idle and running on my 3.0i.

267k on body-160k on engine,new plugs at 235k but they are 2 pronged

My list in order of things to check.
1 fuel pressure
2 check the coil packs for oil residue
3 check the spark plugs. 30k is a lot miles for some plugs. Do you know the metal type or part number? Go to Iridium BKR6EIX NGK 6418
4 turn over the gas cap ring or replace the cap

Can you pull BMW codes? Or only ODBII?

The codes suggest a fuel issue.

Good suggestions on debugging steps above.

Possible failure points that might be the actual problem are: soft failing fuel pump (under the right rear seat) ; fuel pressure regulator, which is built in to the fuel filter.

It is entirely possible that your car is still on its original fuel filter at this point.

One more easy debugging check, since you have so many fuel related codes - does anything change when the fuel tank is full vs. near empty?

Filled up with gas-made it better but still running rough-testing pressure today-will report...and thanks!

Did you pull the plugs out? If not, when you do ohm out the coil packs. All the coil packs should measure similar resistance. Sorry, I don't know the OEM ohm reading. I have the OEM coils I removed three weeks ago. I'll compare the four originals to two replacements.

Like the OP, I've been an amateur mechanic as well (over 50 years of it), have vowed never to go to a dealer/stealer if I can avoid it (a dealer charged my wife over $500 just to recharge her Freon in her Fiero (in 2002), while I was out-of-town; and damaged other components doing so), and I have a growing? list of codes I'm trying to fix. https://xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-forums/...-codes-me.html

CODES encountered so far:
P0171 - fuel system too lean-bank 1
P0174 - fuel system too lean-bank 2
P0313 - misfire detected with low fuel
P0365 - camshaft Position Sensor 'B' Circuit Bank 1
P0369 - camshaft Position Sensor 'B' Circuit Intermittent Bank 1
P0505 - idle control system, idle speed not plausible


P0171 & P0174 keep popping back up (4 times), even after the DISA was upgraded with the GAS kit https://germanautosolutions.com/prod...sa-repair-kit/, and the intake smoke-tested for 20 minutes.

P0313 has appeared 3x, even after the same services done above. P0505 2x, after the same tests. I rattled the IAC, but didn't clean it, as I was out of carb cleaner.

P0365 & P0369 haven't come back after I relaced the exhaust cam position sensor.

Since I used the parts cannon twice already, I guess that I should try a new IAC and fuel filter (or test my fuel pressure first?).

There have been no starting, driveability or idling problems whatsoever; the X5 idles smoothly in neutral, and in drive as well.

If I need to test fuel pressure, then what thread size is the Schrader fitting on the rail? There seems to be a question about which ones work, and ones that don't. And I guess I'll replace the rubber boots as well, even though I couldn't find any leaks.

Working and researching lean codes, I can provide info. P1174/P1175 are likely O2 sensor reading errors. I've corrected those by using OEM sensors. P0174/P0175 are engine component issues. Faulty fuel injectors, bad plugs, vacuum leaks, and oil burning. Since the cam sensor appears, I would start there. A graphing scanner would be great right now. Knowing fuel trims or graphing O2 data would be helpful.
