General Module 3 Swap-What Issues to Expect

I picked up a GM3 from the junkyard for the same year as my vehicle (2003 X5). I realize I "may" have to have the GM3 coded to the car. But, any harm in just plugging it in to see what happens?

I am trying to solve these issues:

1. No interior lights (I have already tried pushing the dome light button, that is not the issue).

2. Remote does not lock/unlock any doors. The central lock button in the car works fine. I have verified that the key remote works properly at a locksmith. The BMW locksmith even coded a new key to the car and it does not lock/unlock the door. So I know the key remote is good.

Have you synchronized the keys?

Mine has the same light issue. I suspect the GMIII too. Unfortunately, I can’t confirm a fix until I get it back. Mine is out of state for suspension work.

The locksmith synchronized the keys.

No issue plugging in the GM3 as is. It is not coded to the car, i.e. no VIN number writing. But, you do need to re-synch the keys to the car. Many vids and how-tos on this, won't rehash. However, there are quite a few variables written in the GM3 that control windows and locks. When I replaced my GM3 I spent about 2 hours quality time going thru it to get my settings back and added a few that seemed worthwhile. I can try to find the file for my original GM3 and see what I changed a bit later today.

Basic coding with NCS takes a minute.

Really? Like copy and reload? I don't have software for coding. At least not, yet.

No need to copy anything from the old module. Basic coding is done according to vehicle order (ZCS) which is found on EWS and instrument cluster.

Thank you. I would definitely like to know the settings you changed.

I have NCS, have not used it. Will dig into that today and learn how to code.

I did swap out the GM3 module. Interior lights now work. Need to still re-program the keys. Checking if anything else changed. Seems wiper-intermitent does not work, but wipers do work.

So option based. Sweet! HMMM, mine has an EWS deleted DME. Would that make a difference?
