Head unit swap

I'm looking for something to do to my X5.. Ive been offered a standard wide-screen head unit but mine has the earlier head unit with the square screen on the left side. Is it a straight swap or more complicated and prevent me from bothering..

I think you have the Navigation unit.

You should not get just a "Standard" wide screen. You should get a head unit made specifically for the E53 with a curved bezel...Buy one from Xtrons, Seicane, Eonon, etc.
All of these have a questionable reputation, but I have used Xtrons several times. The Avant is more $$ but has a better reputation.

If you do have an original NAV head unit, you will need to run the 3 meter cable (need to buy as an extra) from the rear near the battery to the front. It is more work than a simple head unit swap.
