side note for anyone reading this in the future. a possible test to make sure your AC is also working is to loop the heater core hoses so no hot water makes it to the heater core. temp fix if you are in a pinch and a good test if the heater valve is shot

Or just compress them temporarily with hose clamps.

If it's not the valves then check the wiring between valves and IHKA with a multimeter. If it's IHKA then a new used module.

heater control valve fixed it! thanks so much. that picture you posted really helped me understand why it was doing what it was doing. all vents blow cold, ac feels even colder now and i am a happy man. just in time for the outside temps to start dropping

Is this the part under the hood? Did you find out through testing? Feeling the hoses as described in your earlier post? This sounds exactly like the problem I am having.

Only cold air from the dash vents as the wheel is on three blue dots. Feet and other vents are (very) hot

i could feel the 2 hoses being hot after driving even with all things turned to cold. i did not do any testing as i already ordered the part. and yes, its the part under the hood on the US driver side inner fender. took 10 mins to swap out. i pinched the 3 hoses off with vice grips, unplugged, removed old part and installed new part. sounds like you have the same issue. you can test by looping one of the heater core hoses back into the heater core and loop the other hose back into the control valve. if it goes cold you have a bad valve or like the other guy mentioned possibly bad wiring. FCP euro sells new ones for a little over $100

Thanks for the quick response and detailed answer. Did you have to drain the system? Or because of the clamps no system drain needed? I live in Europe, so I will use OEM or another supplier.

you will lose very little fluid if you clamp properly. worst case you will need to top off just a tad after getting it up to temp and cycling the heater core. i lost maybe 17FL.oz from the fluid in the valve and the little bit left in the lines in front of the clamps. if you clamp it make sure they are tight enough to prevent a lot of fluid from coming out but not so tight that you cut the hose. it also being so high in the engine bay that even loosely clamped if you hold the hoses higher then the engine you wont lose any fluid
