DIY Powers steering replacement
Problem is I can't find a DIY guide to do it. Closest I have come is an E46 video. Does anyone know of a diy step by step process with pictures or do you think the e46 will be close enough? |

I have recently done all the hoses on my '05.. Pretty straightforward. I don't know which e46 video you are looking at but likely the same.
- take care with the quick release hoses at the PS Cooler near radiator..The correct tool is a good idea or I use the angled needle nose pliers on quick release tabs while pushing the hoses forward. If any of the PS leaked on a coolant line and it started to swell, you shoudl replace it also. remove airbox and its intake above radiator for better access from top to reservoir and the two hoses that bolt to the steering rack. One is a 19mm and the other may be a 17mm. The harbor freight 12-pt angled metric box end wrenches came in very handy for these bolts. otherwise pretty clear.. |

Yes that is good video..I think access is even better in the E53 for the hoses that go into cooler. No need to remove headlights.
attack the fittings attached to PS pump from below and the fittings attached to rack from above as I mentioned. Use new crush washers where used, and make sure you account for any missing o-rings..like the one on the large u-shaped hose where it connects to the PS pump. That tool from Lisle (Lyle?) is great.. There are other styles.. I think Harbor freight has a set of plastic clip-tools (?) that will also work Be very wary of aftermarket PS hoses! I would not use Rein PS hoses, especially if made in China (many are)...There have been repeated cases of aftermarket PS hoses collapsing internally within a year of installation and causing blockages, and groaning, etc. |

Do you have a Bentley manual? It gives you what you need to know.

Nope. Have heard of them but not exactly sure what they are or where to get one.
Have mostly relied on Youtube videos! |
