any wiring under front seat raised platform?
Once again, I'm making an addition to my X5 equipment, not sanctioned by BMW. I need to screw into the raised (angled) platform formed by the sheetmetal brace under the front seats, in order to install a "Framed Stretch Mesh Net Pocket" under each front seat.
![]() The pockets will retain a first aid kit under the passenger seat (there's one there now, but it slides forward under braking), and a lock-box under the driver's seat. A secondary function will be to secure my aftermarket (cheap) floormats in place (I do this on all my cars, but drilling holes in the BMW is worrisome to me). From the only photo I found, ![]() the only object under that metal is a HVAC duct running to the rear. A screw-hole thru one wouldn't hurt, but if there's wiring, it could. I see no wiring in the picture, so is it safe?

is there a door-installed first-aid kit anyway?
Quote:
![]() I do have the passenger door still attached (of course), but I've got the side pockets filled with various loose items. Probably need to move them to a better spot, in the trunk. Never had the BMW first aid kit, though. The mesh pocket will just keep items under the seats (both seats are already set to our favorite positions, so they're never moved) from sliding forward, but maybe should just use the glove compartment, instead, on the passenger side. But, on the driver's side, I'm absolutely needing this...the lockbox weighs about six lbs, and might slide under the brake pedal, so I'm going to use a mesh pocket there, to eliminate the problem. I'm planning to use some 3/4" or 1" self-drilling screws to mount the bottom of the pocket's frame to the raised metal under the seat, and secure the upper corners to the seat itself, using zip ties. The elastic nature of the pocket will allow insertion and removal of the two boxes, but hold them in place until needed. Out-of-sight, but handy. I'll get the pockets sometime today....

I think EODGuy was referring to the OE (factory) first kit (which was an option). It attaches to the seat and has a front door.

thought so

But, I'm trying to retain the stock appearance (wornout & aged, like myself), so I'm trying to hide my add-ons. Out-of-sight lock-box & storage spots are something I've been adding to my vehicles & trailer(s) for years, and this thread/question is for just another one.

Stock appearance is the OEM first aid kit.

don't I wish
Very nice, but my non-BMW solution should be less expensive, if I use the mesh net & cheap alternative first aid kit. I just hope there are no wires in that location.

I think I have less than $50 in my box and in the contents. You just need to shop around if you want to go factory.
You do you. If you want the setup you have chosen, then that's all that matters. Now about the factory fire extinguisher to go along with your first aid kit. ![]()
