Replacing the rear BMW Logo and Base Housing
X5 E53 rear emblem and chrome base housing replacement
I know it is a low tech item, but mine was beginning to delaminate and the base chrome was showing signs of the beginning of pitting so it was time to bite the bullet and order the parts and install. Part Numbers Body Rear Tail Gate Emblem Base- BMW 51148250028 1 $99.09 Body Rear Tail Gate Emblem - BMW 51141970248 1 $39.86 The process is simple but TOTALLY different that the hood ones as there are no grommets holding it on. The emblem has double sticky tape on the back and the base can only be removed after prying off the emblem and removing the center mounting set screw. 20 mins of time including cleaning all the foam separator off the tailgate paint with 3M adhesive remover. The base unit has a foam backing to keep everything rattle free.  Now everything is nice and shiny once again…
