Coming from 19in to 20in

Hey guy's,

I'm REALLY wanting to switch out my 19in five star wheels on my 04' 4.4i X5 with the 20in 05' 4.8 ones, but can't seem to find them anywhere. I don't want to resort to the dealer for them because of the fear of sticker shock, and I was considering after market replicas. Now I've heard that the after market 20in are considerably heavier. I don't want to do this and compromise wear on my ride. So my question is; has anyone done the after market replicas? And if so how is your experiences been with them? And last but not least, where's a good place online to order in the US?

Thanks, and I look forward to suggestions.

Here is a buyer guide for replica wheels. Although this article discusses the 4.6is replicas, the same should apply to a 4.8is replica wheel as well.

OEM 4.8 rims are a little rarer to find compared to 4.6 but you might be able to find them on eBay or check the classifieds. I've never seen replica 4.8 rims anywhere.

When I bought my replica 4.6 rims, I also asked him about the 4.8 rims, but they weren't available yet. He said that the market has seen a need for them yet, but if more people want them, I'm sure they'll come out soon.

I agree that the only ones you'll find are take-offs on eBay or classifieds.

Here's the address for a set of 4.8is's on ebay in Australia. With the exchange rate they are around $750 USD at present.

I'm in market for the 20" V-Style 168 4.8is as well. I have looked hard on net for them, only place I found was the guy from Australia. However I'm unsure about buying from him. I post ebay question to him: "Nice Rims! I have 2005 X5 4.4 and I'm interested in these wheels. You say that these rims are "identical replicas" so what forging process was used to make them and much how does each rim weigh compare to the org BMW Rims? Also, do you sell tires which can be mounted on these rims before shipping?"

The reply was: "we can mount tyres on the wheels before shipping.. however not recommended for the safety and transport costs.. the manufacturing process is identical to that of the genuines.. made in the same mould.. only difference is the part number.. identical specs and weight.. thanks" - Randy

My concern is that I know the weight of rim can not be the same, so what else is he not telling me?!???

Regards,
Marc.

I'm wondering either, because im thinking of getting a set of replica like this as well. And the price is "very" cheap...actually in my opinion a bit too good to be true. But since it is true and a real deal, I guessing theres got to be some hitch to it as well.

I read Buyers Guide for Replica BMW Wheels in the articles posted on the forum. Wonder if will go well on a WHEEL BALANCER.
