Update: I finally got a new front drive shaft from eBay and took the car to my indy shop for a swap. I got the AWD back!. One comment they made was that without replacing the transfer case (showed some wear they said) that this might not last very long before it starts to slip or strip again.

Now to those that have swapped their drive shaft in the past, how long before it failed again with the original T-case? Or are yours still working to this day. I opted to go this route with a new T-case because the new T-case are (they suggest brand new) is damn expensive and and would cost me near $4k. If I was going to go that route, I might as well find another X5.
