Engine vibration

Has anyone experienced an engine drone / vibration at a certain rpm and more prominent under load?
I have the above symptoms on my 01 4.4 and I’ve narrowed it down to either the AC compressor, belt or tensioner as when I turn off the climate control it smooths out. I plan to have both belts, tensioners and ac compressor replaced soon anyway but just wanted to know if anyone else has had ‘auxiliary belt vibration’.
I did find a post on a LandRover forum where a guy had mentioned the same thing. Interesting.

I recall reading more than a few posts about AC compressor bearings failing, and since it goes away when you turn the AC off, I'm betting that is your culprit. I've had tensioner pulleys and bearings fail over the years and mine tended to go out spectacularly, followed very quickly by a belt departure.

Check motors mounts as every vibration will loose its isolation as the mounts deteriorate.

"Goes away when climate control is off" or "goes away when AC is off?"

Well the AC cannot be on if the climate control is not on. So the noise is present anytime the climate control is on regardless of whether the AC is on?

If I switch off the ac it smooths out. If I use the fan speed control to turn the fan off (and ac) it smooths out.
Even the wife said the other week that the engine was 'racing' at idle. And she hasn't got a clue about cars.. The AC compressor must be putting more load on than normal even though it idles at the correct rpm with it on. When it's off the idle speed drops a bit and feels better.
When the compressor is off I'm going to take a look inside it I think.

I can imagine the AC compressor gets shut off if you turn the fan off... My guess would be your AC compressor has a problem.
