Hey all, I have owned 2 E53 4.6iS and my newest one has a stock exhaust from what I can tell but it is extremely quiet it's quite odd. This is what I thought it should sound like:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=egKdU4j8wDs and my old 4.6iS sounded similar but was louder for sure since it had an aftermarket billy boat exhaust or something like that from a previous owner so it was much much louder. However, my new 4.6iS has a stock exhaust system but it has no burble or v8 rumble to it like you'd expect. I'm not sure if the previous owner modified the stock exhaust to be quieter for some reason but I don't think they did. I have a few photos I'm going to try and upload to show what the exhaust looks like on the car now. I know these cars do have a sort of spring loaded valve that's supposed to open near the middle of the car under hard acceleration I think but does anybody know how to verify this valve is working and isn't frozen shut for some reason? I know an exhaust leak would obviously change the sound so I had the car brought into an exhaust shop and they put it on a drive on and said they couldn't locate any exhaust leaks to fix.
Can anybody confirm that the video I linked is what a stock 4.6is should sound like? Does anyone have any sound clips or videos of their own 4.6 to compare too?
