in the inner door skin so must go in from outside and above? So much of the trim needs to come off? I have looked for a DIY but to no avail. Any tips or pointers appreciated. |

Easy. Take the door panel off. Locate the silly little bolts that hold the glass to the winder carrier and then lift the glass out (or slide the new one down into the door) then bolt it back to the carrier.

I ended up removing the horizontal trim piece that runs along the door. i was then able to remove the upside-down U shaped channel that the window slides up and down in. This allowed me to insert the glass into the door cavity from outside the door. I carefully lowered it as far down into the door cavity as it would go and then reinstalled the U shaped channel and fed the window back up from inside the door. It’s now taped in place awaiting reconnection with the regulator.

Can you be more specific as to which horizontal trim piece? Top of door? How does it come offf? I need to replace a rear window and I too cannot find any decent instructions.

It’s been almost a year since I did this so my memory on the gory details is hazy…
The inner door panel needs to be removed. This allows removal of the inner trim piece that goes up and around the door frame. The horizontal trim piece I spoke of is on the outside of the car. I don’t recall what other, if any, outside trim pieces need to be removed in order to allow for removal of that horizontal piece. |

On a side note for those who want to keep the glass
up temporarily... Sure you can tape it but with sticky tape, it can be a nightmare to remove the tape. It is easier to use a short piece of wood, such as a broom stick. Just cut a shallow groove so the glass can sit on the groove. Then zip tie the piece of wood so it does not move around.
