identify this "inside the driver's (left side) door" part?

I opened my driver's side door to go get plumbing repair parts at Home Depot this noontime; this part fell out from behind the door card when one (or more) door panel retainer clips let go. It has a broken retainer still attached.

I've never had to pull off the door card, yet, so I've not seen what's inside. I can't seem to identify it in Realoem photos, either. What is it?

it is glued to the door card to hold the little clip that goes in a hole to hold the card on. If you remove the door card you will see where it goes

Thanks, it doesn't sound too bad a piece to suddenly come disconnected.

The little bit of dried glue on the piece had me wondering if it was holding something important (but hidden from view) inside the door. I tried wiggling the inner handle and armrest, thinking that they might let go, but nothing happened. I'll put in more retainers tomorrow, so maybe I won't have to open the can of worms inside the door card.

There are a bunch of similar pieces, all different shapes though, glued to the inside of the door cards in precise locations. The glue deteriorates with age, so I bet when you pull the panel you’ll leave a few more on on the door itself.

If you plan on fixing it I’d have your JB weld ready, along with a bunch of new plastic push-in expansion pieces and quick grip clamps on hand. I’ve found the tan plastic bonder JB weld works well, but your mileage may vary. Also check the window regulator clip while you are in there. Stinks to pull it all off, reglue all those pieces and then have the regulator clip fail after you put it all back together!
