Is the increased length of hoses - maybe 4x the distance - a problem ? maybe not as it is just oil laden crankcase air you are filtering in a CCV

It is oil-laden crankcase air mixed with water vapor just the same as when it's in its normal location, so it most definitely will exacerbate the sludge problem. Those longer hoses are just more cool places for the water vapor to condense. Bmw540san may just live in a warmer climate or change his CCV more often though. Which he is correct, it definitely makes it easier to get to.

The sludging issue is highly dependent on your climate and driving style as well, so it may be that he has no issues because he always drives long trips or mostly drives in warm climates.

Here you go and few things to point out:

I did have same concerns with hoses lenght as few guys mentioned but I think it's probably 2 maybe 3 times longer than stock. This is true for only 2 hoses as the 3rd one that drains back to oil sump is OEM.

Also, the longest distance is for the hose with bigest diameter so I doubt I'll have issues with clogging.

Anyway, so far so good as I've had this setup since December 2021 / 11k miles ago. This is 2nd winter with this setup so I trully believe, if there were any issues, they would show by now.

My oil consumption has actually decreased but I think it's mainly because I switched from 5w30 to 5w40.

I only regret not saving sales receipt for hoses as it had info on diameter and part # but I'll try to read info on hoses themselves and save it if I need to replace them later.

I think that it's important to differentiate between southern winters and northern winters.
