Steering column..
Got a slight knocking coming from the steering column on my X5. At first I thought it was the universal joint but it seems to be the part where the column goes through the bulkhead where there is a green part and a thick foam washer.
Has anyone had experience of this or replacing the parts? It's a 2001 4.4 withe comfort option adjustable steering. UK. |

I had to replace that on mine but it was a long time ago so I don't remember what kind of noise it was making but I'm thinking it was more of a rubbing noise?? I had to replace the U-joint assembly as well for the slight knocking, unfortunatley it started that again but I shouldn't be surprised as I bought the vehicle with 190k and now have 430k km on it!

So what's the deal then? Is there a lower shaft with a bearing on it? Realoem doesn't list individual parts for my vehicle. Odd.

As far as I can remember the green thing acts as a seal, I don't remember a foam washer. The shaft with the u-joints is an assembly with one part number.
