Great article!
Next collectible or not, the longer I own it the more I like it.
And I make this statement while having mine for sale at the moment.
Weirdly, I'm secretly glad it looks like it won't get sold.
While nothing special, my particular example is rare enough in the sense I'm not going to let it go for cheap money after the loving care I gave it.
Also, having owned X3 G01 one for 5 months now, it makes me appreciate the X5 E53 even more.
G01 is great for what it is but the E53 has that mechanical feel that new cars simply lack.

Nice ones will be fairly valuable as most E53's have been run on a shoe string budget with funds put towards shitty modifications and aftermarket sound systems along with stupid lift kits. (You know who you are on here)

I still regularly drive and enjoy our 2001 E53 sport, 5 spd that we have had since new... ~132,000 miles.

Looks decent, runs very well, still fun to drive and it is our 3rd car in the stable.

Whether or not it is the new 'classic', it is part of my decades long assembly of 'collectibles and stuff'.

My CEO has her new X3, we still have our 21+ yr old VetteVert, and there is very little out there in new car land that grabs my attention in terms of replacing my E53.
