This is not a new recall. It's been going for many years. BMW is trying to get the people who have not yet done the recall to get it done.

The e53 is new to me as of a few weeks ago and I checked its airbag status here: https://www.bmwusa.com/safety-and-emission-recalls.html Last edited by SoCalM5; 05-05-2023 at 02:48 PM. Reason: typo |

Yeah, my 2004 non-sport is not showing up either. If I stop posting, might wanna revive this thread as a warning to others.

I pulled wife's airbag to confirm not the dangerous brand. Three are tips to confirm based on type and color of sticker.

I've had the round sport airbag changed on campaign both my E39 and E53. Both the same type BAM PT1 - 1085.

Did BMW only use Takata airbags in some, but not all X5s? What's the other manufacturer(s) other than Takata that are in X5 of that genera? My non-sport 2004 isn't affected by the recall either, but got me curious as of what airbags are in the car.

My understanding was they didn't ship with them only if they had been replaced at some point. I could be wrong and that may only apply to certain models

There was some discussion of a "new" airbag recall that started back in 2019. I'm not convinced this new news report is actually news.
Discussion of that one ... https://xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-forums/...-recall-4.html Summary (inferred based on what BMW eventually did for me) is that if you have an original 4-spoke steering wheel you are fine. A 3-spoke (sport) wheel might have a bad airbag in there, but only if it was ever replaced (which the current owner may or may not know). If you love going to your BMW dealer, this is not a concern, just tell them to check it. But if you'd rather stay away, they make it not so clear.
