anyone change there rear subframe bushings without "special tool"?

Even if I got the old ones out, (mine are well worn and probably separated) with sawzall and chisels can you hand push in the Lemforder or Meyle HD replacements?
I have read about guys using 3" black iron nipples and caps for DIY tools, but not for our E53??
I hate the "SPECIAL TOOLS" !!

There are people on this forum that will rent out the special tool as well as company on the net that will rent out the special tool. The only bushing that my fit without a special tool are powerflex bushings.

You will be better off renting the special tool to install the bushing.

I made my own tool for my E39. Not sure if it's the same size for the E53.

No matter what you do you are going to need a "special tool". Whether that be a press, a home made tool/contraption, or a tool designed for the specific job, all depends on how you choose to tackle it.

Since you'll need something no matter what, I'd just rent the designed tool (for very little) and breeze through it.

I am pretty sure the preferred tool is the more open (brass colored photo) as it is more expensive.
Can anyone comment that the "cup" (black tool in red case photo) works just as well - its cheaper.

THANKS!

Ricky Bobby will become famous soon enough
You need that "cage" in the tool kit - its what braces the follower/plates and rests on the actual cup the the bushings are pressed into it -

Already pm'ed you but you can hack out the old bushings and press in the $500 Powerflex by hand - or you can rent the tool and spend $160 for new OEM bushings

Yea but can I use a ratchet on you to press the bushings? That is the real question lol.

I rented the special tool to do it and personally it was worth the rental. I installed Powerflex, I have had good luck with them before. I also did not have to bend the exhaust hangers to get the bushings out. A little heat on the subframe housing helps too.
