There's effectively a second set splines that have been worn in; each spline should be a consistent 'V' groove whereas you have a double V.
The problem is the male splines are probably also worn; see if the peaks of the splines come to a point. Fitting them together will tell the story, too. I'm guessing there's slop whereas they should be tight with little to no tolerance on this particular interface. |

I know what you're saying, though that tooth profile is the same all the way in, and I've been running the longer front drive shaft for five years now. But there is some play between the drive shaft and the shaft in the transfer case. I would say 'screw it', and just go with it. But as I have encountered another delay, I can still go back in and replace this part.
