Does anyone know where the Auxilary Fan control is located?

Hi All,
I have a 2002 X5 that is losing it's charge (battery). I had the battery replaced for 300$ (dealer installed et cetera) about 2 months ago. They say they have tested everything and it is not the battery. What they did find is that the auxilary fan is coming on while it is parked and draining the battery and not allowing it to start in the morning. They say that they want 850$ (to 1000$) to repair this and I don't want to pay it. Has anyone ever encountered this problem before?
Thank you
Brent

Are you talking about the interior vent fan? If so, its part of the climate control module in the dash- I'm guessing that's why the high price.

I think there is a recycle air fan that can be programed to turn on @ certain time for Summer season, which is programmed under BC button. Is that the problem you are having?

Mackskibum;
That must be it, they were pretty vague with the explanation. I will go and find out and then get back to you. Thank you.

Chubyball;
If that is the problem, then to program a button and cost 850$ + seems like they are really trying to rip me off. As above I will be checking into it in more depth and getting back to you.
Would you be able to show me how to program if that is the problem?

Anyway on another note, I have been going through the X5's forum and it is incredible that the two responses are from the two people that I see helping out all over the froum. You guys are the greatest especially for helping out like this.

Thank you,
Brent

It is very easy to program, very simple. If your BC is lite up in RED that means your fan will run sometimes, that depends on your timer that you set. If the light is not in RED but the fan still running then must be something wrong, you need to find out which fan is running and where it wires to.
There are too many got damn fans in this vehicle, I think one in the rear console, but not sure how many in front seats.
That would be great if someone here can show us the diagram of the ventilation of this X5.

Chuby and I are talking about the same thing- there is a programmable "delay" that allows the vent fan to function for a period of time with the ignition off. This is an owner defined yes or no option and is in the owner's manual. Look here: http://www.bmwmotorsports.org/pdf/BM...20-%202002.pdf on page 112 is the instructions for the 2002 X5.

If the HVAC module is defective, it will probably have to be replaced.

Ch and Mac
I
am going to look into this a little further now that I have armed myself...You know what they say though, a little knowledge is a dangerous thing in the wrong hands. I will try really hard not to mess anything up and will let you know how things turn out.
I will be working on it in the next few days.
Thank you so much,
Brent
