Sounds like you have a stuck cable for the hood release.

Keep hood open!!!

If it sticks in the closed position you will be enjoying the phrase "I wish my hands were smaller" while disassembling everything!!
Don't end up like I did....

Clean all old grime from the latch holes and open the plastic barrel connectors on the cable, clean the dirt out of them and the sleeves with wd40 (including every area where you can get to the cable.) Spray an ass load of silicone lubricant dust resistant type in the same spots. Work the hell out of the latch inside, test that the latches are springing into the lock position before closing the hood.

I personally would do all and order all 3 pieces of hood cable and latches if you are in a high humidity/rainy area because I can't express how much of a bastard it is when it fails closed/locked.
