Dinan throttle body

Noticed this sticker on the intake.

It's $1000 new 😳

Wonder what the benefit is... or who bought and installed it.

Dinan website claims:

Features:
  • More Power: + 6 HP @ 6500 RPM, + 5 LB-FT @ 6500 RPM (coupled w/ engine software)
  • Improved throttle response
  • Bored 3mm larger for a 9% increase in air flow area
Seems like a lot of money for not much benefit.

Claimed with zero actual dyno charts, just a collectors' item designed to lighten your wallet.

I thought it was discovered that the Dinan TB was just a 740i TB or something like that (my memory is trash)? I have one on my 4.8is but as Dinan was HQ'd in Cali I didn't think they made anything (besides the FI kits) that significantly changed factory performance. Reason being the need to stay CARB certified...

Steve Dinan sold out and the buyers moved it to Alabama.

But this is if true is a dumb way to spend $1,000. Glad it wasn't me.

I just put the 84 mm (I think) throttle body on my m62 and it sounds a little throatier, but beyond that I can’t really tell any significant difference. I needed to replance my throttle as the plug finally shattered during my recent large pipe leak adventures and my Indy said it would be plug and play (beyond having to be spliced into the harness, he was right), and why not for the same money as the smaller OE size.

I can’t recall which motor it is from though.
