Factory6speed is on a distinguished road
Sunroof disaster (help)

Hello. I just picked up a 2005 at auction. It's a 6 speed manual. Due to some mechanical issues I haven't even got to drive it yet. So while I've been waiting on parts I've been cleaning it.

I noticed that the headliner had some water stains on it on the one side of the sunroof. The seller noted that "sunroof is inoperable". Against my better judgment I decided to press the button and see what happens. Maybe it just works, and then I could clean / lubricate it and clean the drains I guess was my thought. Really I'm all in with this thing so I would like it to work. Well now I regret it.

The shade went back ok. The glass went back but made some nasty popping noises. And then some crunching noises. The back glass tilted up. And the front glass stopped a little early.

Trying to close it, the back glass refused to go down. The front glass will side a little bit forward but stops, lots of crunching noises.

I was trying to figure out what was going on and I noticed the front glass was not sitting evenly, it was tilted up on one side and it's missing the rubber accordion boot on the one side. So someone's been messing with this thing before. I was just able to lift the glass up to the passenger side, a small plastic piece broke, but it was already broken, and the whole glass came right off.

So the front glass is currently off the car and there's a big hole in the roof. I didn't have to unscrew anything I just lifted it off and some stuff broke.

I was then able to take the screwdriver and tap the rear glass down per a video and it's sitting flush. So that's good.

The track for the front glass moves a little forward and stops. If I crank it manually with the tool it feels really bad like there's some big junk in there. It's stuck pretty far back.

So my current plan is to carefully remove the rear glass and try and clean what I can in there and lubricate it. Maybe I can get the front track to move freely, but it's broken in various ways.

My question is is can I just plop the front glass on there, and somehow get it to lock in, and God willing somehow get it to seal? Just for a little bit so I can drive it until I can do the repair. How does the front glass even go on?

There's some little broken plastic pieces, and these two metal rail-like pieces I have in hand with the glass. If I can get it clean and get the track to side forward can I just place the glass down? I think though I'm looking at having to do the repair kit. Fantastic. Any advice or help is appreciated. I would love to drive this thing today I finished putting the front axles in it. Oh well. Now I probably have to pull the damn headliner and watch that video another 400 times to figure out how to do all those little parts.

All in all the things in pretty good shape, it needs some paint work, front axles (done), various cleaning, and it appears to be leaking from the rear main seal. And it's missing a part of the roof now .. then it should be good,
