Makes sense (must try that one day myself) - although most vendors only sell a single display module for both e39 and e53 variants.

The polarizer must be in the display itself as there is no additional filter in front the display module. I've had mine apart several times, fixing "dead pixels" (which is actually a bad ribbon cable connection, not actual dead pixels)
