If I remember correctly you can drill out the nib for the arm and use a pin or small machine screw.

Remember this thread Prop? 6 years later, these mirrors are still flawless. I spent $420 back in 2018 for the full set and just checked the current price at $450.

1st of all.. Man! is it good to see you! I wonder more often than I care to admit how goes it with the Ghia. I sure hope well. My heart is filled to see you well.

Are your mirrors also dimming? This whole silly thing started for me bc somebody linked us in another thread to RockAuto that had E53 side mirrors (heated only) for $130ea! Totally bought them... and then totally realized that the whole shenanigan was different with puddle lights and dimming glass.

And thus began the journey through what I am now calling the @Clockwork school of E53 side mirrors. Like the thread here says.. It's alll been done.. I just wanna be that one guy who owns two E53's with folding side mirrors that work.

To be completely transparent.. I know a guy who actually did fulfill that specific prophecy. But both of his N62's mileage could be added and tripled again compared to my more weathered liege.

For me, it was stopping it in certain places to get a look at the parts you showed vs what I have. What I *neeeeD* now is a motor shell. I sprung the spring on my black plastic dohickey with the gears.. I am VERY glad I was wearing my close-upper eye-glasses. If I had tried that same thing in my 30's, I would be blind in one eye today.

The (latest) eBay mirror I have arrived with a cracked metal motor cover (You know, the pot metal thing that the gear pin hits against?) So, I need either advice on how to JB weld it, or one that isn't cracked.

Anyone got a spare?

What I seek is a set of working/non jammed black plastic gear housing *and* an unbroken gear housing. What I WANT to accomplish is the quick replacement and full function of my wife's E53 mirrors. *but! I *ALSO wanna try these mirror micro switches! If I can accomplish the function of the mirrors, I can THEN focus on whether these swicthes do what they sez they do in the right way for our mirrors.

And THEN... Well, THEN.. we have a microswitch fix that damn near ANYBODY can do! And THAT... Is an itch scratched the world over.

Now taking donations of an unbusted mirror gear housing.

Sadly, JB Weld doesn't work. I tried and it failed. Since there is super tight tolerance between the pot metal or white metal, (what ever the proper term and I think POT stands for piece of trash) and the black plastic sleeve, you can't fix

As you found out, that pot metal housing has to not have a crack or it will fail when installed
When ever I'm at a Pick-n-pull, I look for an e53 with power mirrors to grab these parts to see if they are in usable shape. A lot of them, I find, are as I feel a lot of ppl do not actually use the fold feature since it really doesn't fold much.

Well, I had to stew on this for about 10 days. I finally figured out how to make a miniature spring compressor for the gear housing. On the eBay mirror I bought, the gears were misaligned inside the black housing.

I screwed around with the retaining ring not understanding that it was holding in a SpaceX-powered spring and the two gears on top of it. That damn thing launched so far AFTER it took out my readers that I stopped and looked for the parts the next day.

So, anyway I think that I will be able to repair the ring gear on my wife's if it has the same gear problem as the eBay mirror did. So that's progress. I don't like going into something without a contingency plan.
