Oil Pan Gasket DIY (With subframe drop) Interest??
Hi all, during the holidays, I will be doing an oil pan gasket replacement on my 04 6MT. I was curious to know if there would be any interest for a DIY thread. The first time I did one on my auto, there didn't seem do be any good writeup's online. For all the V8 guys, the process would be almost identical. Just didn't want to spend the time if there was no interest. Let me know!

I agree. These fun jobs always need some good write ups. Going into a repair without a DIY is nerve wrecking for me.

1. Are you sure the OFH Gasket is not leaking?
I just did the OFH Gasket in my 2006 X5 M54 with 115K. I also have a 1998 528i M52, the oil pan gasket is bone dry at 155K miles. 2. Now if you really want to get into this oil pan gasket, over E39 forum we pioneered the "cut and RTV" technique. No need to drop subframe. The BMW purists will say this is not kosher, but the practical people who did it told me 4 years later bone dry with "cut and RTV" technique. Here is the thread that "Mudbone" started in E39 forum... I'd like to see that, please! I have to do mine also.
I'm leaning towards the cut method but I would also like to see other ways to do it too.

Can someone repost the link for the short CUT m54 oil pan gasket method. I have zero interest in dropping the sub frame. Also I'm curious if anyone has results they can share 1yr out on any oil leaks or issues with the alternative repair
