Help? Variable Intake System Codes 2820 in n62 x5
I have an issue with two error codes 2820 and 2821. Can a nyone help with this before I buy a new intake manifold motor. DME: Variable Intake System - Temperature Warning Threshold DME: Variable Intake System - Plausibility Maf sensor is new aftermarket (didn’t change codes). Have taken off inlet manifold cleaned and checked. All o2 sensors replaced also so can likely rule any interference there out. Checked with battery well charged, no issues there. Cleared many times, codes have lingered for 6 months +. Have resolved all the other issues with car except these two codes, which linger. Before I buy a new intake manifold motor (they aren’t cheap) I am wondering if anyone has had and fixed these codes. I have swapped with an old used manifold motor, and inlet manifold as well, but didn’t change anything, codes keep coming. Drives and generally runs fine otherwise. This has got me really stumped and I am wondering if the other manifold motor I tried was also bad. But maybe someone else has some thoughts or has solved this? |

It might be a good idea to check the circuit wiring including the DME connector. You could also try to disconnect the motor completely and see what codes come up.

N62 rear variable "DISA" valve?
Another link for 2820 and 2821. The info was found doing a quick search. Seems the check engine light will not turn on. One user mentioned it as a ghost code for a low battery.

I have a brand new battery and I've erased the codes numerous times with them coming back immediately.
I wish it was that simple....... |

So this is going to be an issue pretty much unsolved by the looks of it?

this is where actual real electrical troubleshooting needs to happen. ![]() get a set of needle back probe test pins. the needles have to be small enough diameter to not cause damage to the female sockets. there's been a few times where i caused faults when pins on the DME were bent and touching together when reinstalling connectors. likewise, i used probe pins too large and they pushed out or damaged sockets leading to intermittent or poor connections. also oxidation on pins/sockets can cause faults. get the actual wire diagrams for your circuit and measure out and fault find with the particularly relevant DME connector to the circuit disconnected. this goes for both Homerlovesbeer and snowdouble0 there is no quote 'solution' except to troubleshoot the circuit, and identify the fault. if everything on the circuit is great, next thing you will be doing is replacing the DME and/or get a used one programmed to your VIN and synced with the EWS system.
