Question X5 E53 2005 screen menu issue

Hi all, my head unit screen keeps cycling through the default blue menu then to the normal nav menu. The process is the screen goes black, then it comes up with another menu layout (like a default one) then that dissappears and the normal screen comes back. If I happen to have nav map showing then it will come back to that. Radio all works fine all the time.

Any ideas? Oh, by the way the bluetooth is not working. Can’t seem to get it to pair with my iphone 15. It is a replaced bluetooth module with a working one. Can’t bring up the pairing message on the screen.

cheers

Allow/pardon me to be simplistic...
Whats the condition of the existing car battery (age)? Components act wonky if the cars battery is weak especially on the BMW.

Normally the nav module produces the layout on the screen. If nav unit drops out the video module (versions with TV option) produces a substitute more robust layout. So sounds like the nav module is on it's last legs. You can test how it behaves without the map CD/DVD inserted especially if it's burned, not original disc.

I will check my CD as it is a brand new nav unit (old stock) never been used. Thanks for the info on the video module as mine has the tv option. I am wondering if there is a problem in the chain of modules (cd changer, nav unit, radio, radio amp, bluetooth, etc.) which might cause the restart. ie I thought they were meant to all boot up in some sequence. I have a new radio module (updated by a chap in the UK) and working radio amp.

In this kind of case it's still more likely that the nav unit itself fails and boots by itself if everything else on the I-bus works normally. Though you could also test unplugging the bluetooth unit for test purposes.

Smile Solved! Blue tooth and head unit screen resetting

Well, eight years later I have solved my bluetooth and screen issues.

I got a replacement bluetooth unit a while back but the telephone icon would not show up on the screen. Checked the connector and that looked ok back then when I had the water issue in the rear left cargo bay area. Eight years later and decided to get the connectivity checked. Sneaky connector was hiding a corroded bit inside. Bluetooth back up and connecting with modern iphone 15 plus(contrary to what some say you can’t use a modern phone).

It feels good when something niggling finally works out. In hindsight I should have done a continuity check back then.

cheers
James
