New Carter fuel pump making lots of noise

Carter fuel pump was nice and quiet for the first week of install, started making an intermittent sound today. Any ideas? I've already got a warranty replacement coming but would be nice to have a theory of what happened, or if it was possibly install related. If I touch the fuel hose I can feel vibration when it makes the noise.

If the part is bad it doesn't fill me with confidence about the replacement, either.

There are mount and pulse isolators that can be messed up with the install and maybe something got messed up in the tank but strange that it started out OK. You'll know more when you take it apart again. You would probably be better off getting the whole unit. The Delphi unit from RockAuto is a really good deal.

Carter could be relied upon for quality back in the day, but between fakes, companies being bought out, attitudes changing and everyone trying to cash in on a company's the previous reputations who knows anymore ?

This was a complete Carter sender assembly, not just the fuel pump. sorry I should have been more specific.

Excessive back pressure (plugged filter) can cause more noise too, so something to consider if the problem persists. The syphon jet being restricted could be a problem as well but then the rail pressure would increase as well. Hopefully the replacement fixes the problem though.

Just got the replacement and will be putting it in shortly. One thing I notice - The Carter pump doesn't have rubber isolators like the OE pump (or like many of the other aftermarket pumps). The mount point is plastic on plastic. Moving the pump body by hand makes a squeaky sound similar to what I am hearing.

Compare the pump mounting of the Carter assembly to the Delphi assembly, which looks just like OE.

The Carter pump looks like it's made to be noisy! No isolators and no pulse isolation as the accordion style hose on the Delphi provides.
Strange that it was quiet to begin with.

New one is quiet so far, but this seems like a terrible design.

Time will tell. It could be that they have the pump designed so well, at least for the noise part, (and maybe only for a short time) that they can get away with not isolating anything!
