3.0 or 2.5 engine

We are all familiar with M54 B30 or 25
But what does the 3.0 actually mean 2.5...

*What is really measured to give us that reading...?

The 30 means 3.0 litres- the combined swept volume/capacity of all six cylinders.

*edit* Google's Gemini states: -

The main difference between the M54B25 and M54B30 engines is the stroke, with the M54B30 having a longer stroke. Both engines share the same 84mm bore, but the M54B30 has a stroke of 89.6mm compared to the M54B25's 75.0mm. This difference in stroke results in the M54B30 having a larger displacement (3.0L vs. 2.5L) and, consequently, more power and torque.

I believe the B30 is usually fitted with a larger throttle body, to allow more into the larger cylinder displacement.

The B30 also has a different intake camshaft, to take advantage of the greater airflow.

Are there larger TB that I can fit to the M54 achieving more air intake resulting in more power for more speed?

Possibly but adding a larger TB alone will not do much - you have to make other mods to allow the engine to use the extra air available in order to make more power.

Other mods including items like air filtration, fueling (injectors and mapping), exhaust system etc.

There's a tonne of info on the 'net about mod'ing the M54. Here's an article about adding a larger TB. Results suggest a power increase at higher rpm but less power at lower rpm.
