Can I open handless door from inside if door shut (but door card has been removed)

Hello to all, right cut to the chase I will remove the door card ,outer door handle, to get to the door handle carrier(busted).

I will apply the st.steel zip tie fix to the carrier(did the drivers side and is holding up well a year and a half on) and as I need time to fix the old carrier and car to be driveable with a shut door of course, wondering if still possible to open the door from the inside though to carry out the rest of the repair at a later time, i.e re-add all the bits removed (door card, handle and repaired carrier)?

Cant for the life of me recall when I did the drivers side if I accidently shut door with all the aforementioned removed and was subsequently able to re-open.

Sure can. You can reach into the cavity and lift the small ball joint that the DHC cable pulls on.

Not hugely practicle but do-able!

*edit* You can test this BEFORE actually closing the door byt setting the door catch to the closed position with a large philips screwdriver, then test the door "opens" when you lift the arm. I actaully test my new/fixed DHCs this way prior to re-installing the door cards!

Use the screwdriver to push the black plastic-covered cam in the centre of the latch - push it towards to outer door skin... (ignore green arrows...)

Ok fella thanks for reply, I plan on pulling out the handle carrier door card, during the week , doing the repair on carrier and refitting all during weekend sooo need to be able to shut the door until then (and of course re-open) or drive around with a open door---while am at it will try sure up the windows guide clips that are making the usual clunk noise, did it on the drivers side when did the door carrier handle and the stainless steel zip tie fix worked a treat....okays thanks again---will be giving that cable a pull too see one i get it all open and do your scredriver trick too before hand

Wayne, I think you are being told again, that looks like it could use some lube on it!

Fortunately, not my door - photo nicked from Pelican Parts!

Is it just me or is anyone else horrified by the state of the vehicles used for the photos on Pelican Parts (otherwise excellent) walk-throughs?

Clearly, they are working on junk-yard samples...

Had pressure from wife to be at her dads birthday and made pigs ear of something I have done before, the window guide clunk knock issue fixed courtesy of st.steel zip ties.

Fix on dhc went wrong, repaired old one, stuck it in but seemed needed a little more tugging to open door....NOT good I thought. Removed it tweaked my fix then back in and would not open at all....so whipped out a replacement new one i had handy (i used a thick wire to sure up the part that fails) ..issue was I was in a hurry and sticking back in the door handle went wrong and I managed to destroy the teeth no.2 in image and no 1. one metal clip that protrudes to keep the part wedged into to door....
ended up fitting door handle and drilling back of the part with destroyed teeth and screw in a small screw with a 1cm washer it ...other wise i was pulling handle and it would open door but the left hand side of it would not sit back flush ...NIGHTMARE... next task it get replacements for both of these parts I buggered. @Wpoll any idea on our RHD drivers what the front passenger side part no.s maybe?

Oh snap! Yeah, that bayonet system at the front of the handle is... delicate. The main handle is best fitted with the DHC jammed in the max. open position, giving you more clearance to re-fit it.

I cannot locate a part number for the other part you have damaged. It seems to be the front lock carrier from the LHD car but with not internals fitted. The reverse must be true for LHD cars.... but I'm still checking/looking.

Is the part unrepairable/unusable?

OK - I think I found the part number(s): -

primer - 51218257739
black - 51218243625
tian (silver) - 51217002315

Seems that the metal part is included with the plastic cover...

Guessing here but if you purchased any of these, you could remove your existing plastic cover from the cast metal section and swap it over (to save having to get the new part painted).
