window regulator parts

Hi
What is the part called the holds the front glass to the regulater.
Mine has broken where it goes through the hole in the glass.
There is a 8mm bolt but no thread on the other side.

Thank you.

X5chemist will become famous soon enough
Reverse them upon installation. Trim the end to fit them. Use a license plate square bolt holder with a bolt to make it fit tighter.

I followed this mod. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JwFFd7OJGaI
Works great.

The clips are often the only thing that breaks (the link that X5Chemist posted) but you have to buy aftermarket, they're not available from BMW. I used to keep a couple in my garage since I think I had five of them break in the 8 years I owned the car.

Bought a whole bunch of them for front and rear window (different part numbers) from Rockauto. Next time one of them breaks again I’ll do the reverse installation trick. Thanks for pointing it out, X5CHEMIST.

Not had the clips break (yet, and I have spares) but I did have the driver's window fall into the door on window-down because the bolts clamping the glass to the carrier were almost completely unthreaded.

That was a fun unshaded hotel parking lot fix on a 95°F humid Tennessee day...

Same here except it was just as we headed out on a two hour drive to go camping for a week, and it was my wife's window that fell down and wouldn't come back up. Stopped in the parking lot of a Ray's grocery store to fix it. But I had gotten pretty good at it by that time.

precautionary window holding device/tool sizing request

Knock on wood, but so far I've only had one window fall, on my wife's '08 Cobalt, that was being worked on (but had been sitting un-driven for almost three years). the window that fell was bathed by the western sun, so perhaps that made the clips more brittle? I dunno, but my '04 Chevy 2500HD sits in the same western sun placement (however the windows are manual, if that makes a difference), and have rarely if ever been opened.

My X5 sits with the driver's (LHD) window facing the western sun, so though I NEVER roll it up or down, maybe someday it might lower itself. In that case, I'd like to have a quick-fix to raise and hold the window in the up-position, if I'm away from home.

Maybe a 2x4 cut to the correct length, or some sort of mini-jack or spreader tool that would fit inside the door cavity? if anyone has ever done that, what did you use? i don't want to tear off my door card to measure (my driver's door card is barely holding on, and has Gorilla Tape helping it, so I'd like not to mess with it).
