Do you have band tools? I'm thinking of buying band pliers. I could band so much stuff on all my vehicles.

It depends if you want just end or side working band pliers or maybe ones you can change the angle. Depends if you need to do stuff in situ in different reach or with separated parts with free space.

I just rebooted the 2006 X5 M54 with 142,500 miles.
One of the outer CV boot cracked. Not bad for ~ 20 yrs old and 142,500 miles.

In contrast to the P2 Volvo car (2007 S60, 2005 XC90 at home), The BMW E53 is easier!

The Volvo: you cannot undo it on the INNER Tripod side bc the factory tangs in the tripod cup prevent you from doing that. So, for the Volvo P2 cars, you have to remove the OUTER CV joint. Sure doable but it involves clamping, CV tool etc etc.

The nice thing about BMW E53 M54: once the axle is out of the car, you simply slide the Trpiod out of the INNER cup. The rest is straighforward: undo the circlip, then tap the tripod out using a drift (mark with whiteout paint first, so it goes back the same way). Then clean the OUTER CV joint, reboot it. Then do the INNER boot.

I also replaced the diff seals x 2 as I don't want to do this job again lol.

I am working on a DIY, stay tuned.

I have the Knipex Tool 1099I220 at home (made in Germany).
- New: $35 (eBay).
- Used: $17 (eBay).

It has a straight and side jaws as shown. So you can clamp it straight or at 90-degree angles:
