Humming at certain speeds, clunking/popping noise sharp turns parking lot speeds
Hi all, second post here! Everyone has been super helpful and knowledgeable on this forum. I am hoping I can get some help. I have a 2005 X5 3.0i. I am getting a lot of "humming" or "singing" at 40-50 mph, and at 74-77mph medium humming. Can also just barely feel it in seat and steering wheel while it is humming at those speeds. I wouldn't even call it a shake or anything just a slight vibration in the steering wheel and seat while it is humming.
At 71mph it doesn't make a noise at all and I have been keeping it at that speed while driving on highway.
I have another 2006 X5 3.0i low miles that sits in the garage with brand new Michelins, car does not make any noise at all. I was thinking about swapping the tires and going for a test drive. Thoughts?
What would be the best way to test if it is a wheel bearing issue? Its hard to pinpoint if the noise is coming from a certain wheel, it almost seems at speeds of 40-50 it comes from the driver rear wheel and at the higher speed it seems to come from the passenger front wheel, but to be honest the vibration and the humming just resonates through the cabin so it is hard to tell. I have also been told it could be a transmission issue since it is speed related?
Also, I am not sure if I should make a separate post for this but, at low speeds when making a decently sharp turn there is a clunking coming from the driver side... CV Axle?? Can feel it in the steering wheel. Almost sounds like a popping noise. What would be a good way to test for this? I did my sway bar end links a week ago to fix clunking over very small imperfections and dips in the road and it did fix that, but the car does not really feel as tight as my 2006. (also did end links on that one as well).
Appreciate any help y'all can give. Maybe someone has had similar symptoms and can point me in the right direction.
