pets, semi-pets, and an ornery bird

omodos- why not let your daughter bring the kitten inside, and not let it out? We've domesticated four of the outdoor cats, after bringing them inside as kittens, so my wife could nurse them back to health (we lost three others, but we tried).

All our dogs (usually 3, but sometimes four, housedogs because we have roaming coyotes)...presently a 5 y.o. Frenchie, a 9 y.o. Shih-Tsu, and a 14 y.o. Dorkie (1/2 Yorkie and 1/2 long-haired miniature Dachshund) get along with the now 3-4 y.o. housecats, as well as the semi-ferals out in the yard (and the chickens). In fact, the Frenchie has her own fan club outside, because there are two cats that follow her everywhere. No fights, or any squabbles, ever. Only our 28 y.o. Congo African Grey Parrot is a problem.

Merry Christmas to all, we are quite distraught now cos the kitten has vanished along with another of our adult cats (that didn't take refuge in the innards of X).....

Would a warm out door cat house help? I took my mom a huge home built outdoor cat house. Weather and wind proofed. Now, all four outdoor cats sleep in side of it to stay warm. Last year, I had to pressure wash some nasty guts from an unfortunate cat remains. I told my mom to honk before starting and wait a few seconds. Cats like warm places.
