Pictures anyone?
I’m looking for some reference pictures. Specifically the lower oil pan on the M62. What exactly does worn chain guide material look like? Of course, big chunks with part number on them prolly indicate some wear. I ask for pictures because I just did my lower pan. Only thing there was some sludge that looked like something maybe. It was absolutely grit free. It was like oily powdery substance. Rolling between fingers produced nothing but paste. I will try to scale down a few pictures if I can shrink them.

This was my lower pan when I broke the motor down last year. My guides were very brittle, but in tact at 150k miles. The plastic came off the u-guide when I unbolted it.

I have 75K miles. Mine looks like that. But the amount of debris is about half the of what I have. Thank you so much for that picture. If you were to rub this between your thumb and finger, is it fine particles?

It was like a paste maybe…if I recall correctly. A few years ago now, but I seem to recall it wiping off with a shop towel. No chunks tho, I do remember that.
A few more pics of the bottom end during disassembly below. The covers were a mess, but the block and oil pump were in very good shape. Not sure what he covers got so messy. I used a big impact to get the Jesus bolt off and it did some damage to the front cover (lower) and broke some plastic off one of the guides, but before that they were all intact. ![]() ![]() ![]()
