I would say just as likely as mechanical fault. Pull any connectors and clean.

I've read where oil can wick though cables and get into connectors.

I have issue on my car i just discovered: oil pressure sensor failed and it's letting oil though the sensor into the electrical connector.

It's such a pity that the alternator is located directly below three potential sources of contamination - the power steering pump, the high-pressure fuel pump and the oil filter housing!!

FYI, The power steering fluid was leaking on mine because the o-ring in the reservoir cap was worn out. In fact so worn out and flat that at first I thought it was missing!

after all of above sourced a suitable o-ring from a store specializing in hyrdaulic equipment, lets see if leak stops

Back to the trans.failsafe, well 'new' mechanic hooked up to obd and he believes its an electrical issue (yes very vague) ...he will look at crankshaft sensor, oil temp/cooler sensor, wants me to drive a few 100 km and pop round so he can re-scan codes (he reset all codes and there were a few but he said just one error on one thing can result in the rest)
as for checking for leaks and replacing the fluid he was well aware of the process and said if trans temp is too high then we go down that route and change., but is a risky process gotta get it right.

Basically he doesn't and didn't pinpoint the issue being the transmission or immediately tell me to change it...

All in all he was more up to speed on things than many others I contacted.

I revert on findings...

Hope the new tech finds the problem.

What are the codes? Maybe some of our more experienced members already reading can help further with more info.

alas he didnt give me a list...i will be taking it ths week so he can check transmission temp i think...not sure this can be taken via obd scanner? Either way it hasnt gone into limp mode after 40miles of driving...big test is doing a trip down a steep slope which is what has caused issue so far
