Totally non the wiser yet, new mechanic said be better if i can replicate issue and get X5 to him whilst it exhibits issues, especially as I guess he reset all codes, tad worried as doing the drive to him in limp mode that took me 30mins today in normal drive mode means can take me anything from 45-60mins in limpmode, mainly urban driving bumper to bumper

Just buy a Foxwell nt-510 NOT nt-530 (I believe 530 doesn't access all the modules) I know 510 works great. Just have one of the Brits bring it back to Cyprus or they can use the royal mail to the base...

Or splurge and get the 710: tablet based and does updates over WiFi.

Won't have many improvements for E53 but i bought when wife picked up F10 and 510 wouldn't read some of the important modules

That's rubbish - it doesn't need to be in limp mode for the mechanic to read the codes. Even if you stop and re-start the car and limp mode goes way, the codes will still be there...

Right now there are no codes and no issues. Mechanic is saying what most will say; it's far easier to diagnose a non intermittent problem. If the problem is easy to reproduce by going downhill a certain way go near the guy and reproduce the problem.

I still think it's likely electrical gremlin. Some wire shifts when doing that downhill maneuver. I do hope you find it soon and it's simple.

Ok makes sense but first mechanic reset i believe and i was not in limp mode after this, then this second guy read codes and reset he said, can transmission temp be acquired via the scanner tool? Think he wants to check that and take it from there if high well got bad low fluid and or knackered components....in which case i decide risk the fluid change or leave as is in case makes issue worse as its at 117k and never been done...btw one thing i havent tried is sticking car in manual mode when going down steep hills see if the trans fail mode pops up....or sport mode for that matter...coasting down hills that are steep seem to be trigger for limpmode....

Okays but hmmm its 30 min drive from where I can reproduce issue to mechanics location about 11km, and bearing in mind i'll be in limp mode this will take me even longer to get to him, and@Wpoll cheers, but if the codes are wiped wiped I guess i have to replicate conditions to create the fault, although research I have done says you may not get fault back but still have a delayed/pending reading and read only after being detected under multiple drive cycles or under specific driving conditions (quoting wot i found online)

Have you looked at all the electrical connections? When I was having random issues with engine turned out the connector at the DME was dirty. There should be connectors at the transmission and TCM in the e-box that can be addressed.
