Mirror Mirror on the X5

I have non folding mirrors on my E53.
Can I just install and hook a new set of power folding mirrors?
Yes, I will need the different door controller button unit.
I actually have a spare in my parts bin.

Is this possible plug and play?

Been wondering this myself. Metal base on the driver side is corroding under the paint, which I think is common. If I’m going to take the door cards off for the millionth time amd risk broken plastic to repair something, I’d like it to be an upgrade.

We didn’t order heated seats, but my 2002 4.4 came with the seat heat wiring in it and the LCI heated seats I swapped in work great. I’m hopeful that the folding mirrors were pre-wired too. I recall seeing a long mirror swap thread somewhere, but can’t find it now.

I would assume all LCI e53s have the wiring. RealOEM shows several mirror assemblies for my pre-LCI 4.4 and one mentions power folding. Pn 51167039925

I swapped my seats out to heated also. They work great.
Sold the original set for 200. Heated seats were 200.
Score !

On e70, the wiring is different if you have dimming vs. Just heated. I think since it’s outside they can’t have a plug just in case but it’s possible to have a connector with more contacts than needed so it’s def a good question. Look at real oem and see if they have the part for wiring.

I don't think it's that simple as I believe you would also need to do some VO change on the e53 with power fold mirrors they can't be folded IN after vehicle is moving past a certain speed (so has to be tied to speedo somehow) but if they were folded previously you CAN open them out.
