8 Speed Trans Swap

Came across this on Youtube. Anyone seen this or done it? Mechanically it looks pretty straight forward, but the control and wiring looks complicated. But the wiring has always been my week point.

Take my money! :BMW: Nice! I'll have to watch the entire video later. I like the cost breakdown at the end.

I liked that too. Potentially a very expensive mod.

Ok, cost estimates range from $2000-$8500. The transmission, controller and adapters cost the most. The transmission cost can be lowered if good sources are available. Controller and adapters are fixed costs. The plug and play harness is worth the cost. Making a harness saves money but time is added. His guide is good. I would need to watch the video a few more time to pick up on the technical and programming stuff.

I need to find time to watch the video. My wife’s G08 50e X5 has been my first experiential the 8HP and I think an E53 with that transmission would be amazing.

Somewhere between the 5HP and 8HP auto slush-boxes took a game changing leap for the better. Seamless power delivery, can handle tons of torque, great fuel economy, and it almost always finds the right gear for the driving situation.

I’m on the second 5HP in my E53 and someday it will need a rebuild or replace.

That would be the 6HP...

The 6HP was a game-changer and the 8HP took the ball and ran with it...

Surely the 8HP must be a contender for the best auto of all time?

'My 21 HEMI runs great with a ZF8HP. I've driven 4, 5, 6, 8, and 10 speed transmissions. ZF8 is my favorite. If I could, I would tune mine for firmer shifts.

The ZF8 would be fun to drive with a 3.0i or V8 X5. The two OD gears are nice. The 4.11 gears would benefit from 1st-6th gears. The slush box goes through the five gears too fast. It runs in 5th at too low of a speed. If I need acceleration, I slap it to Sport Mode.
