Is a lift necessary to install OEM running boards?

I was going to have my dealer do this install. But if its something that can be done on the ground without a lift, I may as well do it myself. Can anyone comment if they have done this install without a lift? Also, which rivet gun will I need?

Thanks!

You don't need a lift. Search the forums...someone just did it a couple of days ago and posted some good tips. There are also many tips in the articles section....Phil

I just did mine: http://www.xoutpost.com/x5-e53-forum/...d-install.html.

You'll need`a 1/2 socket and a few other tools...not too difficult. Ask the dealer for instruction pdf # 01 29 0 134 596. The 4.6 may be slightly different. Have fun!

I have installed on 2 4.6is and 2 4.4s. It is not big deal. The only problem...and it is minor is plugging in the blind rivet on an X5 with 20" wheels on the rear. There is a very small gap between the wheel and trim piece. I used a expanding rivet instead of a blind rivet and just tapped in carefully with a hammer. It took no more than an hour and a half to do the whole thing... Good luck

No lift needed. Just raise your 4.8 to high(off-road) position and that will help and give you enough space.
