Tires

I'm down to either
Toyo Prox. S/T
or
Yokohama Advan S.T.

The Toyo's are all season. Why do you need that? You have a set of winter tires/wheels.

I know the Proxes are widely used by many people here, but those and the Advan's are completely different tires; all season, summer. Advan's are some of the best tires in the world, used in a lot of racing. They're engineered for performance first, then everything else.

I agree, but if the Toyo's are comparable and I can keep the summer wheels on a bit longer, it might be worth it. I hate seeing my X with 18's.

Eric, the Yoko Advan ST is supposed to be an awesome, max-performing SUV tire whereas the Toyo is more of a all-season rubber. So if you want all-out performance then get the Yoko. If you want better tread life then go for the less expensive Toyo. Mind you the Toyo is no slouch.

PS I'm like you....don't like 18s on my truck either.

I think I'm going to go with the Toyo's. I want to be able to drive with the 20's deeper into the season. I had a set to Toyo's on a couple of other cars and was pleased with them. I'll sit on it over the weekend and probably order on Monday.

Thanks everyone for their input so far.

As posted previously, my wife was in an accident on the highway in the rain on a new set of Toyo S/T's. Another accident had just occurred and traffic was coming to a stop. She said she hit the brakes and just stuck to the pavement. Unfortunately the truck behind her did not.

So far I am very impressed with the Toyos.

That's why I always take a guick glance in the rearview mirror to see if I have to give up some front room or even look to start 4wheeling off the road every time I brake in traffic, especially from high speed. Thinking about what could happen and what you could do saves time when it actually does happen. When learning to fly in the Navy, it was all about 'emergency procedures'. It was drilled into you until it was second nature, so you reacted without wasting time thinking. Those few seconds can make a big difference.

I will have to get some new tyres soon and I am thinking about toyo's as they are lot cheaper! I dont really need a all season tyre here in the UK as the weather is not really bad enough but would be nice to know if we did get some bad weather that the X could manage. I read on here that Toyo's are not so good in the summer can any one confirm this is true ?

Thanks guys

Will need to find out about the Toyo's summer ability. Pretty hot over here most of the time. What is the problem with them in the heat?
