Question suspension question

when going over bumps the front suspension sounds like its rusty or something like that almost like in an old car any ideas?

My '01 3.0 (82k miles) was having a similar problem for the longest time - like a knocking/rattling like something old and rusty was making noise...

I replaced the front ball joints and the problem has gone away...$330 installed at Morristown BMW because it wasn't covered under CPO warranty - if you are under manuf. warranty still I am sure it would be covered though...good luck!

they replaced my front axles (prob unrelated to suspension noise but have them check anyway to make sure - CPO covered), left/front upper sway bar link (covered under warranty bc I had fixed it within a year) and they replaced my front ball joints ($330 installed) and the car rides like new - no noise at all and tight suspension....love it...now if i can follow the advice on the forum and rid myself of the tailgate noise i'll be all set
