AFE Cold Air Intake

I installed the AFE cold air intake today... so, what benefits exactly is it supposed to bring? I only drove it for about 10 minutes, but I really did not notice much of a difference. I know smoother accelaration is one of the benefits, correct?

By the way, thanks to Dr. Kewl for his detailed instructions.

Juan

Keep driving it a bit more to let the ECU adjust to the increased air coming in.

You'll notice better throttle response and 'better' whoosh

Cool! Thanks, by the way, for organizing the group buy, Ricky!

It really was my pleasure, I'm just a little mad that not everyone who said they'd buy bought -- that is life though

I'm working with another member who wants an exhaust GB right now.. either that or a Powerchip deal will happen soon.

Juan, what model X5 do you have? Can you notice the sound difference?

Kaefer: I forgot to ask you, can you take some pictures of your intake?
I love pictures

I have an '03 - 3.0. I'll have to drive it more, and I'll be able to tell you if I notice/hear any differences. I only drove it for a few minutes after the install to make sure everything was working properly. I'll let you know, though...

I'll take some pics tomorrow, Ricky.

Juan, congrats on the install. Anyhow, you'll probably get a little more "pull" once you past 3.5K-4K rpm till redline..... You'll get a subtle growl @ WOT at those rpms. Also, you can quicken the adaptation for the M54 engine by searching the articles re: resetting throttle adaptation.

Glad my article helped.

Juan, it's probably a good idea to do the throttle adaptation and reset the ecu.

Couple of questions...

1) Are there any MAF issues associated with the AFE CAI?

2) Will it cause a SES light to be thrown? If so, what's the fix?

Any long-term reviews from Dr. Kewl, breytonX5, ekaz, or anyone else would be appreciated.

Thank you.
