i completely agree...i mean mine is an '01 but it seems as though everyone has these problems - like little minor annoying things that we shouldn't have for what we pay for these vehicles..

i mean i leased my wife an altima and it hasn't had to see the dealer since the day we leased it and there are none of these problems...of course the altima is nowhere near as fun to drive as the X

Had the same issue for 5 months until I finally had enough of the dealer's inability to fix it. Ended up covering the rubber bumper stops with felt (not to thick mind you, maybe 1/8th of an inch) and wrapping the two lower latches in the tail gate and the upper lift gate latch with electrical tape.
It's been rattle free for 7 months now...........

interesting...i was going to definately try the felt after the dealer couldn't fix it and everyone on here recommended the felt - but the electrical tape...hmmm...i would like to do that as well since you had a good experience eliminating the rattle noise...can you describe exactly where you put the electrical tape and how?

Thats what i dont understand too. Dont get me wrong i love my X5 but its riddled with little problems. Then you go to the dealer and they deny its a problem and say its normal or that they cant find what the problem is. ITs bullshit if you ask me.

I had the same rattle- I adjusted the rubber bump stops and the position of the latches for the lift gate and rear gate to bring them tighter to the body. In addition I added some lithium grease to the latch mechanism to cure some squeaks that happened after the latch adjustment.

My 2000 has had a bunch of problems as well- maybe a contest- who has had the most problems?

I think the early x5 had a number of problems. It was new model. The 2004 vesion was suppose to include improvements to "fix" these early issues. I thought that the soft close improvement and value timing on the engine were both improvements/fixes?

My question is do other 2004-2006 X5 owners have the problems I outlined?
