What year is your X? If I remember correctly, starting in '04, they all have rear air suspension.

I have a 4.4 01. THis guy told me that some have it that manually control the air ride in the rear when more weight is put in the back

All 2001 X5 4.4i came with rear air suspension standard. It automatically keeps the rear ride height stable if you load up the rear cargo area with heavy items.
So, you DON'T need springs, but H&R usually uses different shorter links to trick the rear air springs to lower it a bit. Another way to lower it is to use BMW DIS computer to adjust the baseline rear height. Also, the H&R springs are on the harsh side, but does improve the X5 handling....however, Eibach springs are another alternative with less ride harshness. Good luck. Quote:

what do you think is the proper cost for something like this. I have heard that the eibach springs are not as good as the H&R
