Question Metro DC Service

Need brakes on my 2003 3.0l X5, can some one recommend a independent certidied BMW shop. I'd do the work myself but don't have a heated garage, or time to do it.... Also any recommendations on brake upgrades, what are the pros/cons on vented or sloted disks ????Thanks in advance.

check out that thread...there are some helpful links and prices...

after reading that i bought axxis pads and brembo rotors for the front (neither slotted nor drilled - just regular) for about 196 including shipping from import replacement parts...

so far i am very satisfied and they do not cause brake dust so the wheels will stay shiny longer!

I've taken my X to Martin Motorsports in Alexandria. (703)823-9735. Ask for Gary if you decide to call them and tell him JV sent you.

Einstein Motors in College Park, MD. The owner, Gary, used to work at Passport till he opened up shop a few years ago. He did my Axxis (PBR) pads upgrade and love it. He can get the pads for you, as well as OEM BMW parts and the Brembo kit, if you want. For some OEM items, you may do better by using CCA discount at Tischer and bring them to Gary yourself (did that for my alum. running boards).

Don't remember what his markup was, but it was reasonable. I think his labor rate is about $60-65/hr, so its pretty affordable (haven't been there in a year though).

It should not take much more than an hour and 1/2 to do the brakes your self...and save about $700.00. I can understand not having time...Ill make time to save that kind of dough...just a thought...
