Does it Harmful? when connect this cable?
I've got carsoft software and interest to get data from x5 to my notebook. I've serch ebay and found this (picture) .The seller note direct connection may damage com port? Have any one used this before and it work? Does it danger to car or notebook? Thanks.

That cable won't work on your X5. The ODBII connector is rectangular, like this:

I may be wrong, but I believe the carsoft requires the cable in your picture. BMW doesn't use the OBDII connector for diagnosis- the connector is round, and located under the hood. Carsoft is not a simple scan tool software- it allows changes to the background info inside the ECM.

The round connector was only on early X5s. Late 2000 & 2001 on were the regular OBDII 15 pin connector. The round connector is under the hood. The other behind a cover under the dash.

OK ,i just look at my car and it's 15 pin odb under the steering. Thanks for helping. Now i can find dealer that sold the cable in thailand.
