x5 4.8is vs cayenne s

hey all,
my first post here. I currently drive an e46 m3 and am thinking about buying/leasing an suv...what are your opinions comparing the cayenne s to the 4.8is...(the cayenne turbo is too expensive i think)
thanks for your advice,
evan

Well first of all, you are asking a biased group. My brother-in-law has the new Cayenne S. I have driven it several times, and find that it feels very heavy. It has more of a luxury type of ride where as my 4.4 has a sporty feel to it. Even when he drives mine, he always comments on how responsive it is. The 4.4 is neck to neck with the Cayenne S, which needs almost 40hp more to pull it's weight! Not to mention it's heavier on gas too. The 4.8is would be a hands down choice...no comparison in my opinion.

Cayenne S looks like a big egg to me. Get the 4.8. With your extra money through a turbo in that bad boy and give the Cayenne a run for it's money...hahaha.

thank you for your responses...the reason i ask about these two models is because, with options, they come similarly priced...

The S must be heavily optioned to come close to the standard 4.8is. But anyway there's no contest. I would pick the 4.4 over the S.

Although I never test drove the Cayenne, as a 4.8is owner I can safely say I am very satisfied and have no desire to check out the Cayenne. I don't care much for its looks.

For what it's worth, I have been driving BMWs since 1993 and have owned 8 of them in that time. Every time I go to purchase a new car I drive every competitor vehicle and so far obviously I have always returned to the roundel... In my opinion you simply cannot beat the driving experience of a BMW...

- anxiously awaiting my E60 ///M5

I don't think you can compare the Cayenne s with the 4.8, the 4.4 would be a better comparison. Both car are great, if you spend most of your time on the road, the bmw is a better choice, if you do medium to heavy off road, then go cayenne. I would say that one thing i very much dislike with the cayenne, are the ridiculous amount of options, packages and extras that really bring the price so much higher. also the gas milage is really bad.
